What is a “Garden Coach?”

Garden Coaching is a relatively new profession. Some people peg its creation to the day in June of 2007 when the New York Times published the first story about this new occupation.

A "Garden Coach" is a professional individual who comes to YOUR garden to help you create a beautiful landscape. A Garden Coach's consultation provides hand-in-hand training to homeowners and might include site analysis, plant identification, design conceptualization, advice about plant care, pruning, transplanting, soil conditions, watering, mulching, and more. If a client has specific projects in mind, a Coach can provide helpful insight and problem-solving advice. In addition, Garden Coaches, like other professionals, rely on a network of colleagues and associates and are therefore well positioned to refer clients to trusted nurseries, landscapers, contractors, and other providers of products and services.

Once familiar with a client's garden and goals, A Coach's periodic return visits can be invaluable in maintaining ongoing motivation and progress toward landscape improvement, beautification, and sustainability.
